In getting with the holiday spirit, the group gathered in August at guitarist Billy Zoom's studio to record two tracks, "Santa Claus is coming to Town" and "Jingle Bells," which will be released this Thanksgiving as a "digital 45," according to a press release.
In June, the band's Exene Cervenka announced she was suffering from multiple sclerosis. "After some months of not feeling 100% healthy, I recently had some medical tests run and the prognosis is that I am suffering from multiple sclerosis," Cervenka said in a prepared statement. "Apparently, it has been affecting me for quite some time."
The diagnosis did not affect the release of the singer's first solo album since 1991. "Somewhere Gone," which surfaced earlier this month on Bloodshot Records, is Cervenka's fourth solo studio effort. In 2006, she released "Sev7en" with her band Exene Cervenka and the Original Sinners.
X has recently discussed the possibility of returning to the recording studio to work on a long overdue follow-up to its most recent studio album, 1993's "Hey Zeus!"
"We're thinking about it, working on it, trying to figure out where that might fit. It's not totally out of the question," singer/bassist John Doe told LiveDaily last year.
