Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra plot fall dates
Helmed by music director/trumpeter Wynton Marsalis , the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will take to the road again next month, stopping by theaters in 16 cities throughout North America.
The fall outing will stick close to the West Coast, kicking off Sept. 15 in Banff, Alberta, and continuing on through an Oct. 7 performance in Lincoln, NE. The full itinerary is shown below.
The 15-member group, which acts as the resident orchestra for New York City's Jazz at Lincoln Center, will perform selections from its vast repertoire, including rare historic compositions, arrangements created by the members themselves and commissioned works made famous by Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane and the like.
The group has toured the world, performing in more than 35 countries on six continents, according to its MySpace page.
The world-famous big band released "Congo Square" in 2007. Marsalis wrote the two-disc set, which is available via iTunes, alongside Ghanaian drummer Yacub Addy.
