Wilco (The Tour) continues to gather steam
Wilco has floated a raft of new fall North American dates between two European jaunts as the group continues to back its new, self-titled studio album.
The trek gets underway Oct. 1 in Iowa City, IA, continuing through an Oct. 18-19 pair of shows in the band's hometown of Chicago. Other stops on the 11-city outing include Dallas (10/9) and Toronto (10/14). Details are below.
The North American dates are sandwiched between two European trips, an overseas itinerary that continues through the middle of November. The band's international schedule can be found at Wilco's website.
"Wilco (The Album)," the band's follow-up to 2007's "Sky Blue Sky," surfaced in late June on the Nonesuch label. The set, which includes Wilco's first-ever official duet ("You and I," recorded with Canadian singer Feist), hit the charts at a No. 4 on The Billboard 200 chart, a career-best for the band.
Last summer, Wilco main man Jeff Tweedy told Billboard that the still-untitled new album would feature a more studio-groomed sound than "Sky Blue Sky," and that the band will "allow ourselves a little bit more leeway in terms of sculpting the sound in the studio and doing overdubs and using the studio as another instrument. Last time around, it was more of a document."
Tweedy also recently collaborated with singer Rosanne Cash on her forthcoming album of covers, "The List." Tweedy appears on Cash's cover of "Long Black Veil," written by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and first recorded by Lefty Frizell in 1959. Cash's father, Johnny Cash, covered the song himself in the mid-'60s.
