Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers prep live anthology, relaunch website
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers recently announced the launch of a new website and an upcoming live anthology that will feature performances originally recorded in concert between 1978 and 2007, according to a press release.
"The Live Anthology" will feature hits and classic original cuts as well as several of the band's favorite cover tunes. Among the covers will be The Grateful Dead's "Friend of the Devil," Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well," James Brown's "Good, Good Lovin,'" and Booker T. and the MGs' "Green Onions."
The anthology will be available in five configurations: digital download; a four-disc, 48-track set; a deluxe box set; a seven-album vinyl box set; and something the band is calling the "Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers Superhighway Tour."
The "Superhighway Tour" will be a digital product that delivers to "ticketholders" 24 of the 48 "Live Anthology" tracks over an eight-week advance period. According to the band's newly-launched website, ticketholders will receive an "insider's view" of those 24 tracks through archived memorabilia, new commentary from band members, classic reviews from the vaults and "more amassed rare vintage" Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers content. Ticketholders will digitally receive the remaining 24 tracks on the official street date of the album, which has yet to be announced. "Superhighway" tickets also will allow access to the Superhighway Merch Booth, which will have exclusive merchandise available every week.
The deluxe box set will feature 62 tracks on five CDs plus two previously unreleased DVDs: a 1978 New Year's Eve concert from Santa Monica, CA, and "400 Days," a documentary shot during the recording and tour for "Wildflowers." It also will include a re-mastered vinyl album of the 1976 "Official Live 'Leg" bootleg, a high-resolution Blu-ray audio disc, which has 256 times more audio resolution than a standard CD, and more.
The seven-LP box set has been mastered directly from the uncompressed 24-bit 96k files and pressed on audiophile-quality high-performance vinyl.
More information, including "The Live Anthology" release date, will soon be available at the band's new website.
