The Hold Steady, Drive-By Truckers team for fall trek

Indie-rockers The Hold Steady and Drive-By Truckers will co-headline a coast-to-coast North American outing this fall.

The "Rock and Roll Means Well Tour" takes off Oct. 30 in Louisville, KY, and is scheduled to visit 18 US cities, plus Toronto, through late November. Two-night stands are booked in New York City, Minneapolis, Seattle and San Francisco. Details are listed below.

Pre-sale tickets will be offered up beginning Tuesday (8/19), and the public onsale starts Friday (8/22).

Hold Steady singer Craig Finn said seeing the Drive-By Truckers' live show was instrumental in getting him motivated to start a band and play music again.

"This tour brings it full circle, and it will be a pleasure and an honor to be able to share a stage with the Truckers," Finn said in a statement. "We're gonna have a really good time."

The Hold Steady is supporting its July release, "Stay Positive," which earned the Brooklyn-based quintet its best chart position to date--No. 30 on The Billboard 200. The lead single, "Sequestered in Memphis," is streaming at the band's MySpace page.

Before The Hold Steady heads out on the "Rock and Roll Means Well Tour," the group will do a three-week European run. Details about overseas dates can be found at the rockers' website.

Alt-country rockers Drive-By Truckers have been on the road backing their January release, "Brighter Than Creation's Dark," which reached No. 37 on The Billboard 200. The new album marks a fresh beginning for the Athens, GA-based band following singer/guitarist Jason Isbell's departure last spring. The 19-song set includes tunes from primary songwriters Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley, and marks the first time that bassist Shonna Tucker has contributed to the writing.

Founding DBT member John Neff, who has frequently appeared on albums and on stage over the years, but wasn't a full-time presence, is now an official Drive-By Trucker, playing pedal steel and guitar. He and drummer Brad Morgan round out the touring and recording lineup.

A few songs from "Brighter Than Creation's Dark," Drive-By Truckers' eighth album, are streaming at the group's MySpace page.

DBT has its own US tour scheduled through Oct. 1. Those dates can be found at the band's website.
