The Decemberists to visualize 'Hazards' in October

The Decemberists will unveil a special multimedia presentation of their latest album, "The Hazards of Love," at the final stop of the band's ongoing US tour.

"Here Come the Waves: Hazards of Love Visualized" will utilize the talents of four filmmakers--Guilherme Marcondes, Julia Pott, Peter Sluszka and Santa Maria--who have each created animation segments to accompany various parts of the music while the band is performing its Oct. 19 tour-closing show in Los Angeles.

During the remainder of the Portland, OR, group's "A Short Fazed Hovel" outing, which continues Sept. 18 in Orono, ME, the band will continue to perform two sets each night--the first a full performance of "The Hazards of Love," and the second comprised of songs from the band's back catalog, as well as new material. Singer/songwriter Laura Veirs will offer opening support on all headlining dates leading up to the Los Angeles tour closer. Details are included below.

"The Hazards of Love," The Decemberists' fifth studio album, surfaced in March. The record debuted at No. 14 on The Billboard 200 and features guest appearances from Stark and Worden, as well as from Robyn Hitchcock, Rebecca Gates (The Spinanes) and Jim James (My Morning Jacket).

The 17-track set "tells the tale of a woman named Margaret who is ravaged by a shape-shifting animal; her lover, William; a forest queen; and a cold-blooded, lascivious rake," according to a press release.

The band's previous release, 2006's "The Crane Wife," also revolved around storytelling themes and was inspired by both a Japanese folk tale and "The Tempest" by William Shakespeare.
