Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks line up spring dates
Stephen Malkmus and his band, The Jicks, have mapped out the first leg of a spring headlining tour in support of a forthcoming new LP, "Real Emotional Trash."
The former Pavement frontman and crew (which still includes former Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss, who joined The Jicks as a full-time member last year) currently show a strong bias toward the eastern half of the country with the current set of dates; fans on the West Coast can expect more shows to be announced later, according to Malkmus's website.
For the time being, though, the outing kicks off March 19 in Minneapolis and runs through an April 4 appearance in North Adams, MA, with a tally of 13 cities on the calendar. All current dates are shown below.
"Real Emotional Trash," due March 4 on Malkmus's familiar Matador label, is the singer/songwriter's fourth album with The Jicks, following 2005's "Face the Truth."
Malkmus recently provided the singing voice for actress Cate Blanchett's take on Bob Dylan in the Todd Haynes-directed "I'm Not There," contributing his vocals for the songs "Ballad of a Thin Man," "Can't Leave Her Behind" and "Maggie's Farm." The biographical film uses six different actors to portray various stages of Dylan's life.
