Phil Spector's future in the hands of jury

Phil Spector's murder trial was turned over to a Los Angeles Superior Court jury Thursday (3/26) after the prosecution concluded a rebuttal to the defense closing arguments, according to an Associated Press report.

The famed music producer is being retried on a second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson six years ago.

Spector's first trial ended in a jury deadlock in 2007, with the majority favoring conviction. During that trial, the jury only had the option of guilty or not guilty. This time, the jury has the option of considering a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter.

The 40-year-old Clarkson, star of the cult film "Barbarian Queen," had met Spector at House of Blues in West Hollywood, where she was a hostess, hours before her lethal shooting.

The defense claims Clarkson was depressed over her career and shot herself. The prosecution alleges Spector shot her after she refused his sexual advances.
