Kid Rock fine-tunes summer plans
Kid Rock has further fleshed out plans for his summer tour, most of which will find the Detroit-based musician teamed up with southern-rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Rock and Skynyrd have penciled in a handful of new July and August shows together, and Rock has also booked a trio of early September dates. Details are included below.
Also new to the schedule are Rock's June 6 performance at the BamaJam Music & Arts Festival in Enterprise, AL, and a second show in Rock's hometown; all 35,000 tickets for his July 17 show with Skynyrd at Detroit's Comerica Park sold out in 27 minutes, according to his website. In addition to Rock and Skynyrd, the July 17 show will also feature Robert Randolph and the Family Band.
Skynyrd won't be on board for the newly added July 18 concert in Detroit, which instead will feature Rock, Alice in Chains and Cypress Hill. Tickets go on sale Saturday (5/9) via the venue's box office and Tickets.com.
Rock's most recent release, 2007's "Rock N Roll Jesus," debuted at No. 1 and went on to become one of the best-selling albums of 2008. He also celebrated two Grammy nominations this year--one for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for his hit single "All Summer Long" and another for Best Rock Album for "Rock N Roll Jesus."
Lynyrd Skynyrd, which lost long-time pianist Billy Powell in January when the roadie-turned-band member passed away of an apparent heart attack, has been working on the follow-up to 2003's "Vicious Cycle" with Marilyn Manson/Rob Zombie guitarist John 5. No word yet on when the new studio effort will be available.
