The performer's latest set is among the inaugural slate of titles released as part of the Spotlight Music Series--a line of adult contemporary albums from 180 Music that is available exclusively through retail chain Target. The series focuses on new music from "legendary artists," according to a press release.
Loggins said that, when writing his latest collection of songs, he drew inspiration from his 2005 tour with former partner Jim Messina.
"When I finally went on the road with Jimmy Messina again for our 30-year reunion tour, I rediscovered the kind of music I was making as a kid--music that had acoustic guitar at the center and a certain level of joy and simplicity to it," Loggins said in a statement. "I started to think about what it would sound like if I was making my half of a Loggins & Messina record today; that's what I aimed [for] in the making of this new album."
"How About Now" comprises 12 original tracks infused with Loggins' roots-rock/country sound, including a new version of the 1973 Loggins & Messina hit "A Love Song."
"When I realized I wanted to re-record 'A Love Song,' I knew I needed to come up with an innovative way to go about it," Loggins said. "It really helped to have musicians in their 20s working on it with me; they had a fresh set of eyes and ears, which helped give the song a whole different sensibility."
Loggins, who has at least a dozen platinum-album awards in his trophy case, has scored a slew of hit songs over four straight decades, according to his website. He won Grammys in 1979 for "What a Fool Believes" and 1980 for "This Is It," and was nominated for an Academy Award in the '80s for "Footloose."
