John Mayer books album-release show in New York City
Grammy-winning singer/songwriter John Mayer will mark the Nov. 17 release of his forthcoming album, "Battle Studies," with a performance in the Big Apple that same day.
Dubbed "John Mayer Live from the Beacon Theatre," the performance will air live in HD on Fuse, and will be one several Mayer-focused programs that the channel plans to air throughout the month of November, including a "personal and revealing one-on-one interview special with the artist," and a half-hour of Mayer's "greatest music videos," according to a press release.
News of Mayer's plans to perform at the Beacon follows last month's announcement that Mayer, Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino--a.k.a. The John Mayer Trio--will close out 2009 with a Dec. 29 performance at San Diego's Copley Symphony Hall, and a New Year's Eve performance at The Joint in Las Vegas.
Co-produced by Mayer and Jordan, "Battle Studies" is described by the artist as a "confessional, relaxed and liberated album" that incorporates "the warmth, melodies and simplicity of '70s and '80s California rock/pop," according to a press release.
"I approach music like a director doing a period piece," Mayer said. "Where 'Continuum' was R&B and Soul, 'Battle Studies' was written with the timelessness of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac and Neil Young in mind. The melodies and message are concise and from-the-gut with the efficiency of simplicity."
Mayer plans to hit the road early next year for a North American tour behind "Battle Studies."
