Jay-Z reveals opening acts, more stops for fall tour
Jay-Z has revealed the support acts for his upcoming tour, which will take the hip-hop icon around the country this fall in support of his latest chart-topping album, "The Blueprint 3."
The rapper--whose real name is Shawn Carter--will be joined on the road by hip-hop group N.E.R.D. featuring Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of top production unit The Neptunes. Additional support will come from young rappers Wale and J. Cole.
Since last check, a few dates have been added to the tour, which kicks off Oct. 9 in State College, PA, on the campus of Penn State. The trek will visit a mix of college campuses and traditional venues throughout its six-week run, including newly added shows in Ypsilanti, MI (10/21); Philadelphia (10/23); Fresno, CA (11/7); and Lubbock, TX (11/21). Details are included below.
"The Blueprint 3" is Jay-Z's 11th studio album and final installment in his "Blueprint" trilogy, which began with 2001's "The Blueprint" and continued with 2002's "Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse."
The album debuted earlier this month at No. 1 on The Billboard 200, selling close to 500,000 copies in its first week and pushing the rapper's string of top-selling albums to 11, which earned the performer the distinction of being the solo artist with the most No. 1 albums on Billboard's top chart, a record he previously shared with Elvis Presley.
"The Blueprint 3" follows Carter's previous studio effort, 2007's "American Gangster." That album, which was inspired by the 2007 Denzel Washington/Russell Crowe film of the same name, sold more than 400,000 copies during its first week in stores.
