January's New Music DVD Releases: Celine Dion, Metallica, Ike Turner

Celine Dion
"Celine Sur Les Plaines"
(Select Canada)

Quebec-born singer Celine Dion returned to her hometown in August 2008, celebrating the Canadian city's 400th anniversary with an extravagant three-hour concert that's now available on DVD. More than 250,000 fans witnessed the event at The Plains of Abraham, which featured several special guests including Claude Dubois, Zachary Richard and Jean-Pierre Ferland. Though the pop icon's action-packed performance includes 30 live numbers, all of the songs are sung in French with no English subtitles. Behind-the-scenes footage of the rehearsal and scenes prior to the show add extra elements to the three-and-a-half hour collection.

Ike Turner's rock-and-soul legacy lives on with the posthumous release of his latest concert DVD, available Jan. 20. Revisiting the most successful time in his career--his early days--Turner paired with the Kings of Rhythm for a taped performance at the 2002 North Sea Jazz Festival. This 69-minute film features 15 Turner classics, including "Mercy, Mercy," "Baby's Got It," "Proud Mary" and "Rocket 88."

Emerson, Lake & Palmer
"Live at the Royal Albert Hall"
(Shout! Factory)

In celebration of their 25th anniversary, prog-rock pioneers Emerson, Lake & Palmer performed at London's Royal Albert Hall in October 1992 after a 14-year hiatus. Portions of that reunion performance will be available for fans Jan. 27 when the 88-minute DVD hits store shelves. The majority of the set revisits ELP's hits from the '70s ("Tarkus," "From the Beginning," "Lucky Man") with only a taste of their then-brand new studio album, "Black Moon."
