Jack's Mannequin maps early 2010 headlining dates
Alt-rockers Jack's Mannequin will hit the road next month as special guests of Weezer before launching their own headlining tour in February.
The group, led by singer/pianist Andrew McMahon, appears with Weezer for six dates in December, beginning with a Dec. 1 show in Chicago. The headlining trek kicks off Feb. 5 in Seattle, and will hit 13 cities through early March. Dates are below.
The band's second and most recent album, "The Glass Passenger," surfaced last fall. The album appeared after McMahon--who was diagnosed in 2005 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia--was fully recovered from his bout with the disease.
"I waited until I was fairly well recovered before I started writing, not because I wanted to avoid it, or not be telling that story, per se; more than anything, it became largely detail of the aftermath and post-recovery kind of thing, and what it was like to re-situate myself in the world with this fresh perspective, I suppose," McMahon told LiveDaily recently. "There were certainly songs that I think the effects or the actual experience of what I've gone through popped up, songs like 'Caves,' [which] was a really big one that spoke to that experience, not just the aftermath."
The album marks the first appearance of McMahon and the full band--Bobby "Raw" Anderson (guitar, backup vocals), Jay McMillan (drums) and Jon "Dr. J" Sullivan (bass)--together in a recording studio. Previous Jack's Manequin efforts had featured McMahon alone or with session musicians, with the band along only on the road.
"They spent a good amount of the time in the studio with us," McMahon said of his band. "I think the dynamic shifted a little bit. For the most part, it was a familiar feeling. It made it easier in the process for as long as we were. We spent almost a year if not a little bit more to kind of produce all the songs."
