When Lemmy Kilmister set out to form his own band in 1975, he apparently first choose the name "Bastard." Instead, he did some re-thinking and settled on " Motorhead "--the title of the last song he'd contributed to the group Hawkwind before he was fired.

More than three decades later, the 1977 single serves as a mile-marker for the metal genre, as well as perhaps grunge; one can almost hear Kurt Cobain 's voice in the tune. In a 2004 interview with Playlouder.com, Kilmister said, "See, every kind of music influences you, right? Everything's an influence...," even admitting that he listens to classical music, naming Tchaikowsky as a personal favorite.

In support of last year's release "Motorizer," Motorhead is touring North America until later this month, wrapping things up Sept. 20 in Austin, TX. LiveDaily photographer Lyle A. Waisman caught up with the band in Chicago on Sunday (8/30), and here are some of his shots.
