Emmylou Harris maps fall outing
Recently enshrined Country Music Hall of Famer Emmylou Harris will undertake a brief fall headlining trek next month.
Backed by The Red Dirt Boys (featuring Phil Madeira on accordion and keyboards, Colin Linden on guitar and banjo, Rickie Simpkins on mandolin and fiddle, Chris Donohoe on bass and Bryan Owings on drums), Harris will kick off the outing with an Oct. 4 set at San Francisco's free Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park.
The first headlining date of the 12-city trek follows Oct. 6 in Santa Rosa, CA. Highlights of the tour include stops in Montreal (10/18) and Ann Arbor, MI (10/23). Details are included below. Country singer/songwriter Buddy Miller will open.
On the road, Harris continues to support 2008's "All I Intended to Be," her 21st studio album and her third release for Nonesuch Records. The album debuted at No. 22 on The Billboard 200, Harris' highest-debuting album since 1981's "Evangeline."
In 2007, Harris issued a five-disc career retrospective, "Songbird: Rare Tracks and Forgotten Gems," which features previously unreleased material, demos, studio tracks and collaborations. The collection also includes a DVD containing videos and performances dating back to the '70s.
During her more than three-decade career, Harris has sold upwards of 15 million albums and scored 12 Grammys, according to her bio. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame last year.
Earlier this year, Harris toured with Miller, Patty Griffin and Shawn Colvin as "Three Girls and Their Buddy."
