Counting Crows line up North American summer outing
Counting Crows have lined up a series of summer road dates just a month after announcing a split from their longtime record label.
The trek, which gets underway June 26 in Milwaukee, mainly consists of festival appearances, although the band has a July 21 headlining show booked in Los Angeles. The outing follows the group's UK and Ireland tour, which kicks off next month.
International dates can be found at the band's website, while the complete North American schedule is included below.
Last spring, Counting Crows dropped "Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings," which marked their first new studio release since 2002's "Hard Candy." The set has spawned three singles, including the latest, December's "When I Dream of Michelangelo."
In March, the band announced that it was parting ways with Geffen, the group's label for the past 18 years, and the only record label in the band's history. "We want a chance to push those boundaries back as far as we can," reads a message from frontman Adam Duritz posted at Counting Crows' website. "Unfortunately, the directions we want to go and the opportunities we want to pursue are often things that our label is simply not allowed to do.
"We've been friends for a long time and we've worked together for a long time so they understand the direction we need to go in and we understand why they can't always go there with us. We all want what’s best for everyone which is why we've decided to part ways."
The announcement page includes a free download of a cover of Madonna's "Borderline," recorded during a performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, as a way of offering "homage to a certain lady who honored us last year by expressing her longtime deep and abiding worship of our band by naming her entire album ['Hard Candy'] after one of ours," Duritz wrote sarcastically.
