Released in late August, "A Different Kind of Pain" debuted at No. 26 on The Billboard 200 album chart. The set features the cut "Happens All the Time," the video for which is streaming at the band's website.
The group recorded the new set in upstate New York with producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette (Chevelle, Iggy Pop, Puddle of Mudd).
"Michael really understood where we were coming from," singer Scooter Ward said in a statement. "He knows how to get really great guitar sounds, and we already knew him so it was very comfortable. We'd been writing for six months and we recorded the record in about three months."
"A Different Kind of Pain" is Cold's fourth album, but its first for Lava Records, with whom the band signed after parting ways with Interscope Records.
"Going from one label to another wasn't a big deal exactly; we had confidence," Ward said. "We've always sold a decent amount of records and knew that we had a strong fan base. I didn't really care if we were going to end up with another major or go to an indie: as long as we did it our way."
"A Different Kind of Pain" follows Cold's final Interscope release, 2003's "Year of the Spider."
