Chris Gaffney honored with tribute album
Boz Skaggs, Los Lobos, Dave Alvin and Calexico are among the acts that have united to pay tribute to Chris Gaffney, a founding member of the Hacienda Brothers , who died last year after a battle with liver cancer.
The album, "A Man of Somebody's Dreams: A Tribute to the Songs of Chris Gaffney," began as a project between Gaffney and his best friend and musical compatriot Alvin as a way to raise money for the singer/songwriter's mounting medical bills. Unfortunately, the album became a posthumous tribute after Gaffney's death, according to a press release.
Joe Ely, Alejandro Escovedo, Peter Case, Jim Lauderdale, The Iguanas, John Doe, Big Sandy with Los Straitjackets, Robbie Fulks, The Texas Tornadoes and fellow Hacienda Brother Dave Gonzalez also are among the artists featured performing Gaffney's songs on the tribute album.
All proceeds from the album, scheduled for a March 31 release on Yep Roc Records, will benefit the non-profit group Hungry for Music, as well as Gaffney's family.
