Chicago supports 40th anniversary set
Classic rockers Chicago , who celebrated their 40th anniversary last year with an extensive tour, will hit the pavement again next month for shows across North America.
The outing is set to kick off March 11 in St. Petersburg, FL, and continue through the month with two-night casino performances in Biloxi, MS, and Temecula, CA, and a seven-night residency in Las Vegas. A handful of shows follow in April and May, and then the band will skip into August, when they have a slate of fairs and casinos on the books. Scattered dates stretch through mid-October. Details are listed below.
Last October, Rhino Records celebrated Chicago's big milestone by issuing "The Best of Chicago: 40th Anniversary Edition," a career-spanning collection comprising 38 songs on two discs. The set, which covers music from the band's 1969 debut, "Chicago Transit Authority," to 2006's "Chicago XXX," contains 30 Top 40 radio tracks, including No. 1 hits "Look Away," "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" and the Grammy-winning "If You Leave Me Now."
Rhino also released a boxed set of the band's hits, a reissue of 1997's best-of CD "The Heart of Chicago" and a DVD featuring footage from the group's first 10 years. The "Scrapbook 1967-1977" DVD includes a 1972 live show in Japan, a Dick Clark special and never-before-seen home video from founding member Robert Lamm. In September, the label plans to put out another DVD, "The Greatest Halftime Show," which features Chicago playing with the University of Notre Dame marching band, according to a press release.
The band's latest studio set, 2006's "XXX," marked its 30th album and its first new collection of new material in 10 years. The record was produced by Rascal Flatts member Jay DeMarcus.
During its long career, Chicago has sold more than 120 million records, landed five consecutive No. 1 albums and racked up 50 hits in the US, including five No. 1 singles, according to its website. The rockers are also the first American band to chart Top 40 albums in five seperate decades.
Chicago's lineup, which has fluctuated over the years, currently includes founding members Lamm (keyboards/vocals), Walter Parazaider (sax/woodwinds), Lee Loughnane (trumpet) and James Pankow (trombone), as well as Bill Champlin (keyboards/vocals), Jason Scheff (bass/vocals), Keith Howland (guitar) and Tris Imboden (drums).
