R&B singer Charlie Wilson [ tickets ] has organized a special Los Angeles performance later this month to bring attention to and raise money for prostate-cancer research.

The former Gap Band singer, himself a survivor of prostate cancer, will perform July 17 at Los Angeles' Club Nokia, with proceeds from ticket sales going directly to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Along with general admission entry, fans can also purchase one of 10 $250 VIP packages via the Foundation's website. The VIP treatment will include two tickets to the show, two passes to Club Nokia's VIP Lounge and two passes to a private meet-and-greet with the performer after the concert, as well as an exclusive gift bag.

"I was lucky to be diagnosed and begin treatment early," Wilson stated in a press release. "With early detection and treatment, the survival rate rises dramatically--nearly 95 percent. For years, I've spent my life performing. Now I need to spend time informing."

In August, Wilson will head to Afghanistan to perform for US troops while spreading the message about the disease. Earlier this year, the singer visited those stationed at US bases in Iraq and Kuwait.
