Charlie Daniels' Volunteer Jam is good to go
Charlie Daniels ' 2008 Volunteer Jam Tour is ready to roll out next month with Shooter Jennings and .38 Special in the lineup.
The annual trek is scheduled to launch April 11 with a two-night stand in Harris, MI, and visit nearly 30 US cities from coast to coast through mid-August. Details are included below.
The hard-touring Charlie Daniels Band also has dates scheduled in between and on either side of Volunteer Jam; those can be found at Daniels' website. The veteran performer is supporting his October release, "Deuces," which features duets of his own hits as well as country, pop and R&B classics with stars including Brad Paisley, Travis Tritt, Vince Gill and Dolly Parton.
After a rare break from touring to spend time with his newborn daughter, Jennings is back on the road tending to his busiest schedule to date. The outlaw country-rocker expects to headline more than 125 clubs and theaters through the end of the year to support his third studio effort, "The Wolf," which surfaced in October. His full itinerary is listed at his website.
Southern rockers .38 Special, who have been together for more than two decades, continue to play more than 100 shows per year, according to a press release. They, too, have their own dates scheduled around Volunteer Jam, and plan to tour well into fall, according to their website.
Daniels started Volunteer Jam in 1974 to record "Fire on the Mountain" in front of a live audience. The performer's friends joined in for a jam at that Nashville concert and the rest is history.
In January, Daniels--whose music career spans five decades--was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. The singer has scored hits on rock, country, pop and Christian charts, and his signature song, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," earned him a Grammy in 1979. He also has a Dove award on his mantle alongside an Academy of Country Music Pioneer Award.
