Cake preps for new album with spring jaunt
Cake will return to the road this spring, dropping by a handful of US cities in anticipation of a forthcoming but still-unnamed album.
The alt-rockers will kick off the brief headlining run with an April 28 gig in Austin, TX. The 10-city outing rolls through Texas and into the Midwest before heading to the East Coast for a few shows, including a two-night stand at Washington, DC's 9:30 Club, and is currently scheduled to wrap up with a single West Coast appearance June 12 in Santa Rosa, CA. Full details are below.
The California-based group, whose interest in environmental conservationism is well documented at their website, recorded material for the impending new album in their newly-converted, solar-powered studio in Sacramento. A firm release date for the new set has not been announced.
Cake made a splash in the early '90s with their first hit single, "Rock 'N' Roll Lifestyle," from the band's debut album, "Motorcade of Generosity." A collector's edition of the 1994 record is expected in the near future in both CD and LP formats, according to the group's website. The quartet enjoyed continued success with subsequent works, including the hit singles "The Distance" and Never There."
The band's most recent full-length release, 2004's "Pressure Chief," spawned the single "No Phone," which peaked at No. 13 on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks.
