Brian Wilson announces fall US tour

Brian Wilson has lined up a fall US tour, and has also contributed a couple songs--one classic and one brand new--to a Phil Ramone-led songwriter project.

The trek--which follows a brief European interlude that includes an appearance at Ireland's Sept. 4-6 Electric Picnic festival--gets underway Oct. 23 in Mount Pleasant, MI. The 17-city outing extends through early December, winding down Dec. 5 in Stateline, NV. Details are below.

Wilson's overseas schedule can be found at his website.

"That Lucky Old Sun," Wilson's most recent studio album, surfaced last spring. The singer collaborated once again with longtime writing partner Van Dyke Parks and bandmate Scott Bennett. Described by Wilson in a press release as an "interwoven series of 'rounds' with interspersed spoken word," and as an autobiographical travelogue of sorts, the album was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood.

The set--the singer/songwriter's first studio effort since his 2004 re-recording of The Beach Boys' "Smile"--marked Wilson's return to Capitol/EMI, the label that launched The Beach Boys' career with the 1962 hit "Surfin' Safari/409."

More recently, Wilson contributed a pair of tracks to "What Love Can Do," a star-studded compilation album due Aug. 4 on 429 Records. The project, which was assembled by legendary producer Ramone, brought together artists like Wilson, Kris Kristofferson, Kenny Loggins, Burt Bacharach and others to re-record one of their old classics in the studio, and then record a brand new song. Wilson leads off the set with his new take on the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows" and closes the record with his new composition, which serves as the album's title track.
