Brad Paisley tops ACM nomination list

Brad Paisley and Heidi Newfield pulled in the largest haul of nominations as the Academy of Country Music revealed contenders for its April awards ceremony.

Paisley, last year's Top Male Vocalist, scored six nominations for the 44th annual edition of the awards, which will be handed out April 5 in Las Vegas. He's vying for Entertainer of the Year and Top Male Vocalist honors, and will also bid for Single Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Video of the Year for "Waitin' on a Woman," as well as Vocal Event of the Year for "Start a Band" with Keith Urban .

Aside from her nomination as Top Female Vocalist, Newfield also received nods for Single Record of the Year and Song of the Year (as both artist and composer) for "Johnny & June" off her solo debut, last year's "What Am I Waiting For?" The Californian is also nominated for Video of the Year.

Kenny Chesney scores four nominations this year, including Top Male Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year, as well as nominations as both artist and producer for Vocal Event of the Year for his duet with Mac McAnally, "Down the Road." With another Entertainer of the Year award, the singer will match Alabama for most consecutive wins in the category at five. Last year, Kenny Chesney was nominated for all eight categories he was eligible in, eventually taking home two awards.

Jamey Johnson and George Strait each received four nods, with the veteran Strait up for Entertainer of the Year and Top Male Vocalist, and Johnson nominated for Top New Male Vocalist. Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood also grabbed three nominations apiece.

Brooks & Dunn received a pair of nominations, including a shot at the duo's 16th straight win in the Top Vocal Duo category. Other nominees include Sugarland, Little Big Town , Trace Adkins and Taylor Swift. A complete list of nominations is included below.

The ACM will open up the three newcomer categories to fan voting for the first time this year. Fans can vote for winners of the three awards--Top New Female Vocalist, Top New Male Vocalist and Top New Vocal Duo or Group--at GACTV.com beginning Friday (2/13). Winners of each of the three awards will then move on to compete in a new category, Top New Artist. For the second straight year, fans will also be asked to decide the Entertainer of the Year winner. More information can be found at the ACM's voting website.

The 44th Academy of Country Music Awards ceremony will take place April 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will air live on CBS-TV.
