Blake Lewis assembles ADD tour
Electro-pop/funk artist Blake Lewis has mapped out the first leg of his next US tour to support his debut album, "Audio Day Dream."
The outing is set to kick off Sept. 29 in Providence, RI, and hug the East Coast through late October. Lewis is currently trying to solidify dates for the West Coast, as well, according to a blog at his MySpace page. Pop-rock outfit Carlotta will support the tour, which is detailed below.
Lewis, the beat-boxing, season-six runner-up on FOX-TV's "American Idol," dropped his debut offering last December and snagged the No. 10 spot on The Billboard 200. The album has spawned the dance-club hit "How Many Words," which evolved into a remix EP.
Though his rise to fame appeared to be another "Idol" overnight success, Lewis said it was actually years in the making.
"I had books of lyrics and concepts, and demos from four years ago that say 'ADD' on them," Lewis said in his bio, referring to the acronym for "Audio Day Dream." "And I worked with people I was going to work with anyway, like [electronic music mastermind] BT, who is one of my main inspirations in music. I have my band on the album. It's exactly how I wanted it to come out."
Though Lewis is happy with the record, he recently told fans in a MySpace blog that his label, Arista, wasn't always on board with his ideas and the company chose not to pick up the option for his sophomore set. Earlier this week, he announced he is signing with a new label and will have a new single soon.
