Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch recovering, thankful for support

Adam "MCA" Yauch of the Beastie Boys is recovering from surgery after doctors found a cancerous tumor in his left salivary gland last month.

Yauch sent an email to fans today (8/5), thanking them for positive thoughts and explaining that he's home and resting following the surgery a week and a half ago.

"My neck and jaw are pretty stiff from the surgery, but it gets better everyday."

According to the email, Yauch is preparing to undergo radiation therapy in a few weeks, which he describes as "blasting you with some kind of beam for a few minutes a day, 5 days a week, for about 7 weeks."

Yauch also commented on several shout-outs and clips--namely Jay-Z's cover of "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" and Coldplay's version of "Fight for Your Right"--from last weekend's All Points West Festival, which the Beastie Boys had been scheduled to headline. "Very kind of them," Yauch wrote.

"Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1," the Beastie Boys' eighth album, previously was expected in stores Sept. 15. No word yet on when the record will now hit shelves.
