Bad Brains plan Election Night homecoming
Veteran reggae-punks Bad Brains will return to their hometown next week, springing an Election Night surprise on the city they claim banned them in 1979.
On Nov. 4, the group will return to Washington, DC, where, according to punk folklore, the Brains were unofficially "banned" by most nightclub owners in town almost 30 years ago.
A pair of New York City shows (10/5-6) and an appearance in Austin, TX (10/9) will follow the DC concert, with an additional pair of West Coast shows scheduled for December. See dates below.
The group continues to support "Build a Nation," which hit stores last year, and is the "first proper Bad Brains studio album in over a decade," according to the band's new record label, Megaforce. The disc was produced by Adam Yauch of Beastie Boys and features the lineup from the band's most successful period: HR, Darryl Jenifer, Dr. Know and Earl Hudson.
"The Brains are one of most powerful and unique bands in the world," Yauch said in a press statement at the time of the album's release. "They have been a huge influence on me, and it was an honor to work with them on this record."
The band's last punk-oriented release was 1995's "God of Love." The group debuted with a self-titled album in 1982.
