Bad Brains build a comeback album
Legendary punk band Bad Brains is set to return with several live appearances and a new album, the band's first studio release since a dub-influenced effort in 2002.
The hardcore icons--who formed nearly 30 years ago in Washington, DC--will tackle a few dates in June and July, kicking off with a June 24 appearance at the School of Rock festival in Asbury Park, NJ. The band will also participate in the June 25 Rocks Off Concert Cruise in New York City, and will make an appearance at the Aug, 25 Virgin Festival in Baltimore.
The only other date currently on the band's schedule is a July 29 slot at The Rogers Picnic festival in Toronto, appearing on a roster of acts that includes The Roots, Bedouin Soundclash and others.
"Build a Nation," set for a June 26 release, is the first fruit from the Bad Brains' recently announced deal with the Megaforce label, which billed the set in a press release as the "first proper Bad Brains studio album in over a decade." The disc was produced by Adam Yauch of Beastie Boys and features all of the group's original members: HR, Darryl Jenifer, Dr. Know and Earl Hudson.
"The Brains are one of most powerful and unique bands in the world," Yauch said in a prepared statement. "They have been a huge influence on me, and it was an honor to work with them on this record."
The band's last punk-oriented release was 1995's "God of Love." The group debuted with a self-titled album in 1982.
