Album Chart: 'New Moon' shines at No. 1
"The Twilight Saga: New Moon," the soundtrack for the highly anticipated teen-vampire movie, was the top-selling album during its first full week in stores, edging out country star Tim McGraw 's latest set to claim the top spot on the US album chart.
With sales of 153,000 copies, "New Moon"--which debuted at No. 2 last week after spending only three days in stores--takes over the No. 1 slot on The Billboard 200, followed by McGraw's "Southern Voice," which debuts at No. 2 on first-week sales of 137,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan retail data as reported by Billboard.
The new entries at the top of the chart end the two-week reign of Michael Buble 's "Crazy Love," which drops to No. 3 on sales of 102,000 copies. Jay-Z 's "The Blueprint 3" follows at No. 4 with 43,000 copies, and Miley Cyrus ' "The Time of Our Lives" stays at No. 5 with 39,000 copies.
Rounding out the Top 5 are the Black Eyed Peas ' "The E.N.D." at No. 6 with 35,000 copies; Taylor Swift 's "Fearless" at No. 7 with 34,000 copies; Owl City 's "Ocean Eyes" at No. 8 with 28,000 copies; Barbra Streisand 's "Love is the Answer" at No. 9 with just under 28,000 copies; and Joss Stone 's "Colour Me Free"--available exclusively at Target and via iTunes--at No. 10 with 27,000 copies.
