Album Chart: Black Eyed Peas' 'The E.N.D.' begins at No. 1
"The E.N.D.," the latest release from hip-pop outfit Black Eyed Peas , moved just over 300,000 copies during its first week in stores, enough to earn the set a No. 1 debut on the US album chart.
With sales of about 304,000 copies, "The E.N.D." marks the Black Eyed Peas' first No. 1 entry on The Billboard 200, a feat accomplished thanks to first-week sales of about 304,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures as reported by Billboard. Fueling sales is the album's chart-topping single, "Boom Boom Pow," as well as follow-up cut "I Gotta Feeling," which makes its debut at No. 2 on Billboard's latest Hot 100 chart.
The big first week for "The E.N.D." pushes last week's No. 1 entry, Dave Matthews Band 's "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King," down to the No. 2 slot with sales of 128,000 copies, and Eminem 's "Relapse" down one notch to No. 3 with sales of about 87,000 copies.
Meanwhile, the self-titled debut from rock supergroup Chickenfoot --former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and guitar hero Joe Satriani--claims the No. 4 slot after posting a 53% gain over its abbreviated-first-week sales, notching sales of 79,000 copies during its first full week on shelves, according to Billboard.
Rounding out the rest of the Top 10 are Aventura 's "Last" at No. 5 with sales of about 47,000 copies; Lady GaGa's "The Fame" at No. 6 with just shy of Aventura's total; the " Hannah Montana : The Movie" soundtrack at No. 7 with 46,000 copies; Green Day 's "21st Century Breakdown" at No. 8 with 41,000 copies; Mos Def 's "Ecstatic," which debuts at No. 9 on sales of 39,000 copies; and Pleasure P 's "The Introduction of Marcus Cooper," debuting at No. 10 on sales of just under 39,000 copies.
