Aerosmith sets Maui make-up date, Honolulu gig
Aerosmith 's long-awaited concert on the Hawaiian island of Maui has finally been scheduled after more than two years of cancellations, lawsuits and injuries, and the band has also lined up a Honolulu gig that will mark the band's first gig since frontman Steven Tyler was injured during a performance in Sturgis, SD, prompting several cancellations.
Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Joey Kramer and Tom Hamilton will take the stage Oct. 20 at Maui's War Memorial Stadium as part of the settlement of a class-action lawsuit set off when the band canceled a 2007 concert at the same venue, according to The Maui News. Two days earlier, the band will play a gig at Honolulu's Blaisdell Arena.
Tyler, who broke his shoulder when he fell off the stage in August, told promoter Tom Moffatt he was "feeling great and everything is back to normal," according to the island newspaper.
Tyler said the band had been looking forward to playing in the islands since 1976, adding "a big mahalo to the fans for making a dream come true."
Parties to the class-action lawsuit who complied with the terms of the settlement will each receive a free general-admission ticket good for either the Maui show or an Oct. 18 gig in Honolulu. Ticket holders that were part of the class-action suit reportedly also will receive a check to compensate for time and travel expenses when Aerosmith canceled the 2007 show at the last minute.
A venue spokesperson said there will be plenty of good seating available for new ticket buyers at the 10,000-seat stadium.
