Voodoo fest returns to New Orleans, Chili Peppers on board

The Voodoo Music Experience will be back in its home base of New Orleans this year, with the Red Hot Chili Peppers holding down the headlining slot.

The eighth annual event is set for Oct. 28-29, but a venue hasn't been confirmed. Additional acts will be announced "in the weeks and months leading up to the event," according to a press release.

"Despite the past year's events and the uncertainty it has created in the city--it is an honor to have the Peppers be the first act to sign on," Voodoo Music Experience producer Stephen Rehage said in a press release. "I think it speaks volumes about the influence New Orleans Music and musicians have had on the world."

A scaled back version of the Voodoo Music Experience took place in New Orleans just two months after Hurricane Katrina and the flooding that followed destroyed much of the city. The New Orleans show, which was free last year, featured a bill that included Nine Inch Nails, New York Dolls, Queens of the Stone Age, The Secret Machines and World Leader Pretend.

The full-scale 2005 Voodoo Music Experience concert was moved to Memphis.
