Scott Weiland Tells Fans He's 'Home For Good'
Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has been released from a supervised drug treatment program in Southern California and is preparing to resume work with the band. He was released to the treatment program in December after serving a reduced prison stint that stemmed from probation violations related to drug offenses.
"I am now officially home," Weiland said in a posting to the band's official website. "Home for good. I feel extremely grateful and [am] very much looking forward to the upcoming work that is scheduled for STP."
Weiland, who has a long history of drug-related arrests, served five months of an 11-month prison term he drew last August after he violated his probation following a 1998 arrest for heroin possession. In violation of that probation, Weiland was kicked out of a drug rehab center last January, walked out of another last July and reportedly used heroin, also in July. (The heroin use reportedly resulted in an overdose, for which he was treated.)
Weiland was imprisoned a month before the release of STP's latest album, "No. 4," which forced the band to scrap plans to tour behind the release. With Weiland now back in the fold, the band is expected to launch a tour in April.
The first item on STP's new schedule is a showcase at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas, which runs March 15-19. The exact date and location of the band's appearance hasn't been announced.
In his website missive, Weiland also said that he plans to travel to New York this week with his fiancée, model Mary Forsberg, for "Fashion Week," a series of events in which designers will unveil their new spring and summer lines.
