Briefly: Alice in Chains, Music Rising, Extreme, Flavor Flav
The surviving members of Alice in Chains , who earlier this year announced plans to reunite for a summer tour, have announced plans to launch the outing's US leg on May 18.
"While we can't yet share too many details about this tour, we can tell you that all the venues will be clubs, which will give fans an intimate AIC experience," the group wrote in a message posted at its website. "We can also tell you that every city the band plays in has its own major league baseball team."
The group--guitarist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez--plans to announce more information in the next week or so. The trio has not yet said who will be singing during the upcoming run. Original AIC frontman Layne Staley died of a drug overdose four years ago.
Music Rising, a campaign to replace musician's instruments lost or destroyed in the Gulf Region hurricanes, announced Thursday (4/13) that is has replaced over 1,200 instruments since its launch last November. The organization was formed by U2 guitarist The Edge , renowned producer Bob Ezrin, Gibson Guitar Chairman and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz, and MusiCares.
"Providing replacement instruments through Music Rising not only helps the professional musicians to regain a foothold on their future, but will also ensure that one of the Gulf Coast's greatest assets, its music, will rise again," The Edge said in a statement.
The four original members of Boston-based rock outfit Extreme --singer Gary Cherone, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, bassist Pat Badger and drummer Paul Geary--will reunite for a June 30 concert at Boston's Bank of America Pavilion. Tickets go on sale Saturday (4/15).
Public Enemy emcee Flavor Flav has signed a deal with VH1 to appear in a second season of his "Flavor of Love" reality-television show. The show will begin production in Los Angeles next month, according to a press release.
"After spending so much time with Flavor Flav on 'Surreal Life' and 'Flavor of Love,' we shared his frustration at not having found love," executive producers Mark Cronin and Cris Abrego said in a statement. "Thankfully, the success of the first season and Flav's popularity enables us to have a second chance at finding him the right woman."
During its first season, "Flavor of Love" was the highest-rated series in VH1 history, according to the cable network.
