Indigo Girls line up summer dates

Indigo Girls will strike back out on the road starting in July, the first dates for the popular country/folk duo since they finished up an earlier trek this year in February.

The duo of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers have lined up some unusual venues this time around, including the July 1 opening show in Portland, OR, set to take place in the amphitheater inside that city's zoo. The pair will grace two others zoos along the way, in Seattle and Apple Valley, MN.

The 17-date tour also includes a July 15 appearance at the Chicago area's ongoing, seasonal Ravinia Festival, as well as an Aug. 6 slot at the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, RI.

The duo is backing last year's release, "Rarities," which comprises previously unreleased material, as well as contributions to soundtracks, tribute albums and benefit albums, culled from throughout the duo's nearly two-decade career.

Indigo Girls' last set of original studio material was 2004's "All That We Let In," which features Ray and Saliers backed by their longtime band: bassist Clare Kenny, keyboardist Carol Isaacs and drummer Brady Blade.
