Kenny Chesney maps more summer dates

Currently in the midst of a spring roadtrip, country singer Kenny Chesney has rolled out more summer concerts that are part of his continued support for last year's "The Road & The Radio."

The next leg of Chesney's tour kicks off in late May, and now features a number of new June, July and August tour dates. Meanwhile, Chesney is working his way through a spring trek that wraps up in early May. Details are included below.

According to a press release, Chesney is excited about launching his tour's summer leg with a performance in Evansville, IN.

"It's a funny thing about these kinda towns," he said in a statement. "They may not be big or flashy, but they're like where I come from: real basic, pretty simple and all heart. The people that live in those places, that come from those kinds of towns, they remind you about everything that's good about folks, so it's great to be able to start our next leg right smack in the middle of it all."

Joining Chesney for the summer shows will be "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood , as well as his current show-opener, Dierks Bentley .

"Dierks [has already been holding down the] opening slot, so he's a natural as he's coming into his own to be out here with us, and when we started looking around for someone who all the people who've been coming to see us, who have some pretty high expectations, we knew we needed someone who'd really stand out," Chesney said. "Needless to say, I think Carrie Underwood's the real deal ... and I'm psyched she's gonna be on the road with us."

"I saw Kenny in concert when I was 16 years old and it's now a dream come true to be going on tour with him," Underwood said in a press release. "As a record label mate, he has been very encouraging since my album came out and I have great admiration for him for all he's done in his career."

Underwood continues to back her debut album, "Some Hearts," which has sold more than 2 million copies since its November 2005 release. "Jesus Take the Wheel," the album's somber lead single, topped Billboard's country singles chart for six consecutive weeks.

In addition to her stint with Chesney, Underwood will also mount her own headlining run this summer.

Released in November, "The Road & The Radio" is the second of two albums that Chesney offered up last year; the first, "Be As You Are: Songs from an Old Blue Chair," surfaced last January. Both discs debuted atop The Billboard 200 album chart.
