Concerts usher in new Black Crowes DVD
The Black Crowes will hype the release of their first live DVD with several concerts, as well as some previously announced acoustic gigs by group founders Chris and Rich Robinson.
On March 21, the Crowes will release the DVD "Freak 'n' Roll … Into the Fog," recorded last August during five sold-out nights at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium. The 19-song DVD, filmed in High Definition, features originals from the Black Crowes' six studio albums, including "Jealous Again," "Wiser Time," "Remedy," "Soul Singing" and an acoustic rendition of "She Talks to Angels."
The Black Crowes have scheduled multiple-night stands in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The Robinson brothers have also set a tour dubbed "Brothers of a Feather: An Acoustic Evening with Chris & Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes." The acoustic shows will feature a mix of selections from the Crowes' catalog and the Robinson brothers' respective solo catalogs, as well as cover songs and new material, according to a press release. All the brothers' shows will be recorded for a possible live, acoustic album.
Last March, Chris Robinson (vocals) and Rich Robinson (guitar) resurrected The Black Crowes for a multi-night stand at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom. Originally set for five nights, the sold-out engagement turned into a seven-night run.
The success of the Big Apple outing led to a full-blown headlining tour in the spring and an opening slot on Tom Petty's summer outing, followed by more headlining shows in the fall. The group -- which also includes Marc Ford (guitars), Eddie Hawrysch (keyboards), Sven Pipien (bass) and Steve Gorman (drums)-- capped its year with a New Year's Eve performance at Madison Square Garden.
