Randy Travis scatters shows through summer

Country singer and inspirational artist Randy Travis has penciled in sporadic tour dates through the end of August.

Though Travis often plays religious-oriented shows, all of his currently confirmed dates--which include stops at Arizona's and Wisconsin's Country Thunder music festivals--are country music shows.

The Roswell Symphony Orchestra will join Travis for a performance at New Mexico Military Institute's Pearson Auditorium May 3. On Aug. 4, he will appear with "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood in Murphys, CA.

Travis' most recent album, "Glory Train: Songs of Faith, Worship and Praise," is a collection of classic hymns and contemporary worship songs. It includes appearances by The Blind Boys of Alabama on "Swing Down Chariot" and "Up Above My Head (I Hear Music in the Air)," and The Crabb Family on "Through the Fire."

The all-acoustic album, released Oct. 25, garnered a Country Album of the Year nomination for the Gospel Music Association's 37th annual GMA Music Awards, which take place April 5 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. He has also been nominated for a Dove Award in the Country Recorded Song of the Year category for "Angels" from his "Passing Through" album with songwriters Buck Moore, Troy Seals and Harvey McNalley.

Travis recently appeared in the thriller "The Visitation," based on Frank Peretti's New York Times best-selling novel. It was released to theaters Jan. 20 and on DVD Feb. 28.
