Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
"Hammersmith Odeon London, Live '75"
(Sony)
The biggest selling point of the three-disc, 30th-anniversary reissue of "Born to Run," released late last year, was the DVD of Springsteen and the E Street Band performing their first date outside of the U.S. at London's Hammersmith Odeon. Many Boss fanatics regard that gig, which took place in November of 1975, as a legendary performance.
Now, Sony releases the audio-only version of that performance. The two-CD set features young Springsteen and his crew hammering through such soon-to-be classics as "Thunder Road," "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out," "Rosalita" and, of course, "Born to Run."
Ne-Yo
"In My Own Words"
(Def Jam)
Having proved himself by penning hits for such megastars as Faith Evans, Musiq and Mary J. Blige, newcomer Ne-Yo is now set to drop his own highly anticipated album on Def Jam Recordings.
The Arkansas-born, Vegas-raised Ne-Yo is perhaps best known for co-writing Mario's smash "Let Me Love You." The crooner also built upon his fan base, at least in part, during a recent tour with hot R&B star John Legend.
Industry insiders are expecting big things from this debut CD. The record's first single, "Stay" (featuring Peedi Crakk), has proven popular with fans.
Kid Rock
"Live Trucker"
(Atlantic)
Kid Rock delays a return trip to the studio by putting out a live album. This CD, which follows his self-titled 2003 studio set, features Rock performing with his Twisted Brown Trucker Band, and includes such well-known cuts as "Bawitdaba," "Cowboy," "Devil Without a Cause" and "God Only Knows."
Hank Williams III
"Straight to Hell"
(Bruc Records)
Hank the Third--the son of Hank Williams Jr. and the grandson of country king Hank Williams--leaves his spiky punk-rock side behind to focus on butt-kicking hillbilly tunes on this new two-disc set.
The first disc focuses on some of this Hank's favorite topics--partying and positioning himself as an outsider (which he clearly is) among Nashville's mainstream country cats. Songs on the first disc include "Thrown Out of the Bar," "Pills I Took," "Smoke and Wine" and "My Drinkin' Problem." The second disc has only one tune listed, "Louisiana Stripes," and also features a 42-minute "hidden track."
Rhett Miller
"The Believer"
(Verve Forecast)
Rhett Miller takes a break from leading the great Old 97s to release his third solo album, which follows 2002's "The Instigator." The 12-song set was produced by George Drakoulias (Tom Petty, Black Crowes) and features a flurry of guest appearances, notably Gary Louris of the Jayhawks and Rachel Yamagata. The Old 97's last release was the 2005 concert recording "Alive and Wired."
Alan Jackson
"Precious Memories"
(Arista)
The three-time CMA Entertainer of the Year returns after a two-year recording hiatus with this uniquely personal project. "Precious Memories," which follows 2004's "What I Do," is a collection of 15 classic hymns that the cowboy originally recorded as a Christmas gift to his mother. Tracks include "The Old Rugged Cross," "How Great Thou Art" and "I Want to Stroll Over Heaven With You."
