Briefly: Tony Bennett, The Vines, Translator, Test Icicles
A forthcoming Tony Bennett 80th birthday tribute album will pair the crooner with a long list of stars, including Bono, Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Dixie Chicks, Tim McGraw, Billy Joel, James Taylor and Elvis Costello.
The set is expected to hit stores on Sept. 26.
"Vision Valley," the third album from Aussie-rockers The Vines , is scheduled to hit stores April 4. The album is the band's first since lead singer Craig Nicholls was diagnosed in 2004 with an autism-linked neurobiological disorder, and its first since the departure of bassist Patrick Matthews.
The band won't tour behind the album due to Nicholls' medical condition, according to Capitol Records.
The four original members of San Francisco alt-rock band Translator --Steve Barton (guitar, vocals), Robert Darlington (guitar, vocals), Larry Dekker (bass) and Dave Scheff (drums)--will reunite for performances at this year's South by Southwest music festival in Austin, TX.
The group, known for its signature tune "Everywhere That I'm Not," will play its official SXSW showcase on March 16 at Elysium. Two other Austin shows are planned: at the SX South Austin Showcase March 15 at Cafe Caffeine, and at the Pop Culture Press party March 18 at Dog & Duck.
On the eve of launching a planned US tour, UK rock group Test Icicles have announced that they've broken up. The band's debut album, "For Screening Purposes Only," was issued in January.
