Built to Spill returns, tour and album due for April
Alt-rockers Built to Spill will embark on a spring tour April 11, the same day the band returns from a five-year recording drought with the release of its new album, "You in Reverse."
The band, which promoted touring guitarist Jim Roth to full member status in the interim between albums, will introduce its new material beginning April 11 in Minneapolis, MN, the first night of a two-night engagement there. Fans will have plenty of time to familiarize themselves with the new songs, as the band plans on playing 37 shows in 30 cities over the course of its five-week tour.
The five years since the release of Built to Spill's last album, 2001's "Ancient Melodies of the Future," included an 18-month vacation from any kind of music-related work, according to a press release.
When the band members returned from their hiatus, they accepted Roth into the fold as fourth member of the former trio and began working on songs for the new album, "locking themselves" into founding member and singer/guitarist Doug Martsch's garage, according to the release.
The band self-produced the album in a conscious effort to create something "different," said Martsch. "Just to see what would happen. I've made enough records to know I could do this."
"You in Reverse" is Built to Spill's sixth studio album, and its fourth on the Warner label.
