Briefly: Rolling Stones, Coachella, Ice Cube
The Rolling Stones issued a statement on Tuesday (2/7) expressing the band's disappointment about the censorship of parts of two of the three songs the band performed during Sunday's (2/5) Super Bowl XL halftime show.
"The Rolling Stones thought the censorship of their songs by the NFL/ABC was absolutely ridiculous and completely unnecessary," said the statement, attributed to a band spokesperson.
The NFL cut Stones frontman Mick Jagger's microphone during sexually suggestive passages of two songs, "Start Me Up" and "Rough Justice." Only "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" made it through the censors unscathed.
An NFL spokesperson told the Associated Press that the Stones were aware of the league's plan to lower Jagger's mic during the passages; the band's spokesperson didn't dispute that point.
Several additional acts recently joined the bill for this year's edition of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.
Now confirmed for the Saturday (4/19) festivities are Daft Punk and Eagles of Death Metal. New to the Sunday (4/30) lineup are Massive Attack and Ted Leo + Pharmacists.
Rapper Ice Cube , who's become better known as an actor in recent years, will drop his seventh solo album, "Laugh Now, Cry Later," on June 6. Among the guests who appear on the album--which includes production by Scott Storch, Swizz Beatz, Lil' Jon and others--are Snoop Dogg and WC.
The album will be issued by Lench Mob Records, Ice Cube's new independent label. A spring tour is in the works to support the set.
