Wilco plans spring tour as Tweedy continues solo trek
Chicago's Wilco is set to hit the road again in March, after frontman/founding member Jeff Tweedy finishes up his current solo tour.
Wilco will kick off its spring tour March 5 in Chapel Hill, NC, the first of a two-night stand in that city. The 14-date outing will take the band mainly through major spots in the South before winding up in the Midwest.
The slate of shows includes a March 12 appearance at Florida's Langerado Music Festival, a two-day event with a bill that also includes The Black Crowes and The Flaming Lips.
The band recently played a benefit concert in Chicago to aid a member of that city's local music scene. The Jan. 25 show helped raise money for Chicago soundman Gary Schepers, who was diagnosed in December with diabetes and a flesh-eating disease.
Tweedy's current run of solo shows continues Tuesday (1/31) in Vancouver, British Columbia. The singer/guitarist is being joined on the tour by Wilco drummer Glen Kotche for most shows, with fellow Wilco guitarist Nels Cline supporting Tweedy during the Feb. 8 and Feb. 13 dates.
Wilco's most recent album was the live document "Kicking Television--Live in Chicago," which hit stores last November. The 23-song collection was recorded in May 2005 at Chicago's Vic Theatre. Wilco's last studio album was 2004's "A Ghost is Born."
The only remaining original members of Wilco are frontman/guitarist Tweedy and bassist John Stiratt. The group is rounded out by Kotche, Cline, programmer/keyboardist Mikael Jorgenson and keyboardist/guitarist Pat Sansone.
