Depeche Mode returns to US for Coachella, touring
British synth-rock icons Depeche Mode are plotting a second round of US tour dates behind last year's "Playing the Angel," including a performance at the 2006 Coachella festival.
So far, the trio has locked in an April 27 show at the San Francisco Bay Area's Shoreline Amphitheatre, followed by a headlining set at the April 29 opening of the Coachella festival in Indio, CA. Details on the rest of the US shows will be announced shortly, according to the group's publicist.
The new leg of US dates will be sandwiched between the group's extensive European tour plans, which stretch from late January through early August. The group has sold out 69 stadium and arena dates throughout 30 countries, according to a press release.
Details about the group's European trek are posted at the group's website.
Late last fall, Depeche Mode launched its "Playing the Angel" tour with a US leg that kicked off in early November and wrapped up just over a month later.
Last October, the group offered up "Playing the Angel," its 11th album overall, and first new studio set since 2001's "Exciter." The new disc debuted at No. 7 on The Billboard 200 album chart, and has sold almost 2 million copies worldwide, according to a press release.
"Playing the Angel" features the cuts "Precious" and latest single "Suffer Well," for which the group filmed a music video with longtime collaborator Anton Corbijn. Corbijn has guided 20 of the band's videos.
Depeche Mode--singer David Gahan, chief songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Martin Gore and keyboardist Andrew Fletcher--recorded "Playing the Angel" in Santa Barbara, New York and London with producer Ben Hiller (Doves, Blur).
