Black Eyed Peas tapped to headline Honda Civic Tour

This year's edition of the annual Honda Civic Tour, which launches in early spring, will feature The Black Eyed Peas in the top slot, and will promote the redesigned gas/electric Civic Hybrid.

The outing is scheduled to kick off March 23 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, CA. Additional dates and venues have not yet been announced.

"We are so thrilled to be headlining the Honda Civic Tour for 2006," singer Fergie said in a statement. "Honda has been a great supporter and trendsetter in producing environmentally friendly cars, so we are excited about pairing up to bring our live show and sounds out to so many new and long-time fans across the country."

"It's big," MC Will.I.Am added. "It's all coming back to little dreams that you had when you were younger. I remember we would always have to take the bus, because we didn't have cars, and I remember saying I can't wait to get a Civic. ... Here we are, we went from wanting a Civic to doing something with Honda Civic, launching a new hybrid. I mean, that's dope."

As part of the partnership between the group and the car manufacturer, The Black Eyed Peas created and designed special custom features for a Civic Hybrid that will be displayed at each stop on the tour. Customized features include metallic paint designs, Black Eyed Peas graphics and band-member autographs, a custom embroidered leather interior and a Honda Civic Tour Black Eyed Peas PA system, according to a press release.

Fans will have an opportunity to win the auto, according to organizers. More information will be available at the tour's website.

The Civic Hybrid can get up to 50 miles per gallon, according to Honda.

The Black Eyed Peas continue to back their latest album, "Monkey Business," which landed in stores last summer and debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 chart thanks to first-week sales of about 291,000 copies. The set recently earned the group Grammy nominations in four categories: Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal ("Don't Lie"), Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals ("Gone Going"), Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group ("Don't Phunk with My Heart") and Best Rap Song ("Don't Phunk with My Heart").

The Grammys will be handed out during a Feb. 8 ceremony at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and will air live on CBS-TV.
