Death Cab For Cutie reveals film plans
Indie rockers Death Cab For Cutie have announced details of their upcoming video anthology, "Directions," set to be unveiled on the band's website starting in January.
The anthology will consist of 12 short films based on the songs of the band's recent studio album "Plans," each song interpreted by a different director.
Among the directors who will contribute a film to the anthology are Lance Bangs, who has put together videos for R.E.M. and Green Day, as well as P.R. Brown (Billy Corgan, Motley Crue), stop-frame animation artist Ace Norton, graphic novelist Jeffrey Brown, and Aaron Stewart-Ahn, co-owner (with Death Cab bassist Nick Harmer) of video production company otaku-house.
"Each interpretation is phenomenal and our hats go off to everyone involved," said Death Cab's Ben Gibbard in a press release. "It's our hope that this project serves as a model to both labels and bands as a way to grant the directors the type and amount of freedom we've enjoyed in the creation of the music itself."
"We have truly been blessed to have met so many creative and energetic artists over the years of being a band," said Harmer. "It just seemed so appropriate to build a project that so many artists that we admire could be a part of and it's so inspiring to stand back and watch them work."
The band is next scheduled to make a concert appearance at New Year's Eve's Giant Village Festival in downtown Los Angeles. Other acts for the event include Black-Eyed Peas, Flaming Lips and Junior Senior.
Death Cab For Cutie, who recently received a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative will be the musical guest for the Jan. 14 episode of "Saturday Night Live."
