SXSW nabs Neil Young, K.D. Lang, The Pretenders, more

Neil Young , K.D. Lang, Sam Moore , The Pretenders , Judy Collins, Kris Kristofferson and Billy Bragg will all appear at next year's SXSW music festival in Austin, TX, along with additional acts organizers unveiled Thursday (12/15).

Lang, Moore, The Pretenders, Collins, Kristofferson and Bragg are all slated to participate in interview sessions during the annual festival, while Young, as previously reported, is the event's keynote speaker.

Joining Young during his appearance will be director Jonathan Demme, whose film "Neil Young / Heart of Gold" will screen during SXSW . The movie documents Young's 2005 Nashville performances, which focused on his most recent album, "Prairie Wind."

Young's keynote speech is scheduled for March 16.

Previous keynote speakers include the late Johnny Cash, Ray Davies, Daniel Lanois, Little Richard, Krist Novoselic, Robert Plant and Robbie Robertson.

In addition to speaking engagements and industry panels, the SXSW music festival revolves largely around live-performance showcases, which take place at venues throughout the city. The initial batch of acts scheduled to perform during the 2006 five-night festival includes Dashboard Confessional, Flogging Molly, Cat Power, Nickel Creek, Neko Case and more. A complete list of the acts confirmed thus far is included below. (Each artist's city and country of origin is included in the list as available.)

Many additional acts will be named before the festival begins.

SXSW, which next year celebrates its 20th anniversary, comprises three separate components: an interactive conference, a film conference and a music conference, the latter of which will take place from March 15-19. More information is available at the SXSW website.

In 2005, SXSW drew over 8,000 registrants from all sectors of the music business and related industries, and featured performances from more than 1,300 bands spread throughout 60 venues, according to organizers.
