Rob Thomas rings in the New Year with Matchbox Twenty
Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas , who has been on hiatus from the group while mounting a tour behind his inaugural solo album, will re-team with his bandmates for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day performances in Las Vegas.
The group--Thomas, bassist Brian Yale, drummer Paul Doucette, and guitarists Adam Gaynor and Kyle Cook--will take the stage at The Joint at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel for the two shows, marking the quintet's first live performance since December of 2003.
"I haven't played with these guys in two years, and we all thought it would be a blast to get together and celebrate the New Year," Thomas said in a statement.
Thomas has been on the road since early October in support of his debut solo set, "... Something to Be," and is slated to wrap up that outing Dec. 13 in Florida. Details are included below.
Released in April, "... Something to Be" debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart, marking the first time that a male artist from a rock or pop group has debuted atop the chart with an inaugural solo album, according to Atlantic Records.
Spurring sales of the disc are the hit singles "Lonely No More," "This Is How a Heart Breaks" and latest cut "Ever the Same," which Thomas is scheduled to perform during the 33rd Annual American Music Awards. The ceremony, which takes place Nov. 22 at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium, will air live on ABC.
Matchbox Twenty's most recent album is 2002's double-platinum "More Than You Think You Are." The group, which has sold more than 22 million albums worldwide, currently has no plans beyond the New Year's shows, according to a spokesperson.
