Briefly: Depeche Mode, Alicia Keys, MTV Latin VMAs, Beck
Depeche Mode will warm up for its upcoming North American outing with a rare club show Oct. 26 at New York City's Bowery Ballroom.
The private concert for contest winners will mark the band's first public performance since Nov. 5, 2001, when their "Exciter" tour concluded in Mannheim, Germany, according to a press release.
Contest details hadn't been announced at press time, but will be revealed soon via the band's website.
Alicia Keys ' "Unplugged" bows atop the latest Billboard 200 album chart with sales of about 196,000 copies during its first week in stores.
Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons," last week's No. 1 seller, falls one slot to No. 2, while country singer Gary Allan 's "Tough All Over" debuts at No. 3.
Black Eyed Peas' "Monkey Business" jumps from No. 9 to No. 4, and Kanye West's "Late Registration is up one notch to No. 5.
The 2005 edition of the MTV Video Music Awards Latin America, which was to take place Thursday (10/20) at Playa del Carmen in Mexico, has been postponed due to the approach of Hurricane Wilma.
"While the eye of the storm is not expected to hit the Mexican Caribbean, we feel its effect is close enough to greatly impact our production," a network statement read. "Unfortunately given the magnitude of this event, we could not wait for further developments to make this decision without jeopardizing the creative integrity of the show given the risk of talent cancellations and the dismantling of a production this size. Furthermore, the safety and security of our staff, audience, talent and clients is our top priority."
Billboard.com reports that Beck will release "Guerolito," a collection of remixed tracks from his latest album, "Guero," on Dec. 6. The set reportedly features remixes by Beastie Boys' Adam "Adrock" Horovitz and The Dust Brothers' John King.
